Notes

When Jay had viral pneumonia, a doctor in a certain managed care operation insisted the reason he couldn't breathe was due to asthma. When we talked about a second opinion, he let us know that the management company wouldn't just refuse to pay for someone outside the clinic, but would refuse to pay for treatment of anything diagnosed outside the clinic. To get our second opinion, he literally walked next door and brought someone over who said the same thing he did. A few horrifying weeks later, we'd made enough complaints to the management that his doctor and his sock puppet were no longer working there. Steroid treatment for asthma plus viral pneumonia = scary experience.

From the Ophanim
"The seven deadly sins ... Food, clothing, firing, rent, taxes, respectability and children. Nothing can lift those seven milestones from man's neck but money; and the spirit cannot soar until the milestones are lifted."
